JUNIOR PAPER DEADLINES
Guidance for Anthropology Junior Papers
The Anthropology JP is a literature review between 4000-8000 words, not including footnotes, bibliography, tables, illustrations, and appendices (if applicable). Students should plan to use at least 2-3 academic monographs and 5-7 academic articles in their literature review.
Revised deadlines for the submission of Anthropology Junior Papers
(As announced on 3/22/2020)
- Full first draft: Monday, April 6, 2020
- Final submission: Monday, April 27, 2020
- University deadline: Friday, May 15, 2020
The department’s revised draft and final submission deadlines were set after careful consideration of the extended University deadline, as well as time needed for revisions from draft to final submission, and grading deadlines. A student who is unable to submit the final JP on April 27 may request an individual extension from the advisor.
Junior Paper extension limitations to note
All Anthropology majors are required to submit a draft version of their junior paper to their advisor. The draft submission is required at least two weeks before Final JP submission to the department. (See p. 5 on the 2019-2020 calendar for Anthropology juniors as well as the section on independent work for juniors in the Guide to Independent Work in Anthropology.)
If you are unable to meet the 4/6 draft deadline and your advisor grants you a 1-week extension to 4/13, you will be able to meet the departmental requirement to submit a draft at least two weeks before Final JP submission on 4/27.
If you are unable to submit your draft by 4/13, you should keep in mind that in order for you to satisfy the requirement for a 2-week gap between draft and final submission, the latest date possible for a draft extension will be 5/1, since the University deadline for JP submissions is 5/15.
