Jacob Geuder is an urbanist with a focus on social movements, digital media, and urban politics. Geuder received his BA in Sociology and Political Sciences at the University of Konstanz, Germany, his MA in African Studies and his PhD in Urban Studies at the University of Basel, Switzerland. During his PhD, Geuder conducted an ethnographic comparative study of video activist practices in Cape Town and Rio de Janeiro. Consequently, he initiated the Urban Video Archive project, a repository for digital video activism from Brazil. As part of his academic practice, Geuder consulted for NGOs with a focus on climate and social justice, collaborated with independent grassroots media collectives in the Global South and right to the city initiatives in the Global North. These practical research experiences inspire his approach to co-creating ethnographic research.
