João Biehl published an article in Folha de S.Paulo, “Political Savagery and Forced Disappearance in the Amazon.” In the article, Biehl frames the disappearance of his colleague, Dom Phillips against skyrocketing deforestation and violence against Indigenous people in the Amazonia and how these crimes are throwing our planet alarmingly off balance.
Biehl writes, “eliminating the rainforest would make the region’s temperature get up to 4.5 degrees Celsius hotter, making it practically uninhabitable, dramatically altering rainfall patterns, with catastrophic consequences for agriculture and energy production….” Read the full story here, "Political Savagery and Forced Disappearance in the Amazon."
