The Society for Humanistic Anthropology (SHA) has awarded Nicolás Díaz Letelier the First Prize in its 2024 Creative Ethnographic Prose Writing Competition for his essay Where War Dwells.
The SHA's annual writing contest celebrates the use of creative literary techniques to bring stories to life, engaging readers while offering insights into the real world through an anthropological sensibility.
In his winning piece, Nicolás lays the foundation for his dissertation project by exploring the intimacy and affective textures of dictatorial violence in Chile, revisiting his own family’s experiences and archives. This work will soon be published in the pages of Anthropology and Humanism.
The award will be presented at the Society for Humanistic Anthropology Awards Ceremony (November 23, 11:45 AM-12:45 PM —Marriott WS Florida Salon VI), during the American Anthropological Association’s Annual Meeting in Tampa, Florida.
