On September 26th, our first-year graduate cohort met with Didier Fassin, James D. Wolfensohn Professor of Social Science at the Institute for Advanced Study. Enjoying one of the last days of summer in the serene quiet of the White-Levy Room, the group of students– led by Professor João Biehl – had a chance to share their research projects with Professor Fassin, who carefully listened and generously offered insightful ideas and advice. Navigating a variety of themes, areas, and methodologies, the conversation animated the group for the entire afternoon until the day dimmed around the IAS pond. Professor Fassin will be on sabbatical for 2023 to focus on his course, The Trials of the Frontier, at the Collège de France. However, he will resume his role as Visiting Professor in our Department next academic year.
