Golden Goa: An Ethnography of an Unsettled Place

On November 2nd, Jesse Rumsey-Merlan defended his thought-provoking dissertation “Golden Goa: An Ethnography of an Unsettled Place.” Jesse’s research explored the migrant and migratory culture that has emerged in the small Indian state of Goa since Independence in 1961.

Rumsey-Merlan’s dissertation committee included his co-advisors, John Borneman (Princeton Emeritus) and Rena Lederman, as well as his two examiners, Carolyn Rouse and Craig Jeffrey (University of Melbourne).
