On Wednesday, March 20^th, we hosted the Sophomore Open House for the members of the Anthropology Class of 2026. Students enjoyed a delicious pastiche of Asian cuisine and were welcomed by Department’s Chair, Prof. João Biehl, who shared a brief overview of the 50-year history the Department and the active role students took in the creation and shaping of  Anthropology at Princeton. Dr. Onur Günay, Director of Undergraduate Studies, introduced dozens of sophomores to the learning arc that students will follow towards developing their independent work. He also gave a sneak peek of Fall 2024 course offerings – students were excited to learn that the department reserves spaces for their majors within all of Anthropology’s offerings. Dr. Ani Vasudevan further explored the development of the Junior Arc and the significance of people-centered approaches to independent work on pressing socio-political, environmental and technological issues.

A demonstration was given by Prof. Ryo Morimoto alongside the department's robot, SPOT ©, operated by a student enrolled in ANT 325 Robots in Human Ecology: A Hands-on Course for Anthropologists, Engineers, and Policymakers (co-taught with Prof. Alexander Glaser from Materials and Engineering). Prof. Morimoto shared how anthropology explores shifting human-machine boundaries in the field of AI and robotics, with critical socio-cultural and ethical implications.

Prospective majors met with current majors and lecturers to discuss the exciting three tracks offered within the Department: Law, Politics and Economics (LPE); Medical Anthropology (MedAnth); and Sociocultural Anthropology (SCA).
