Anthropology’s Communications and Events Manager, Patty Lieb, and her husband Scott Lieb had the opportunity to visit Graduate Student Christopher Zraunig and his welcoming family in their hometown of Hüttschlag, Austria, this past June.
The Zraunig family have owned and operated a beautiful guest house and restaurant in Hüllschlag for three generations. The guest house, Almrösl, was named by Christopher’s mother after the flower. Christopher’s brother and wife now manage and operate the establishment, keeping their father as head chief.
Christopher took Patty and Scott around the village and through the family’s memory lane. No trip is complete in Austria without taking a hike into the mountains and marveling at the rushing water from the melting snow. Family members joined in the hike that led to many beautiful vistas and wonderful conversations.
We are grateful to Chrisopher and his family for their hospitality and we revel in Anthropology’s multigenerational and international community-making.
