ANT 335 visits Chapel of Sacred Mirrors

April 11, 2025

On April 6, students from ANT 335, “Psychedelics, Shamanism and Plant Intelligence,” taught by visiting professor Glenn Shepard ’87, visited the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors, an artistic and spiritual center in Wappinger, New York. There, students were given a personal tour by international artist-celebrities Alex and Alysson Grey, who are pioneering figures in the psychedelic art movement. Shepard first met the Greys at U.C. Berkeley in the early 1990s, and has followed their rise to fame. Alex Grey is a highly gifted anatomical illustrator, and his unique artistic vision highlights the human body as a holistic integration of the physical body with mind and spirit. His art has been featured at Burning Man, exhibited and sold at major international art galleries and auction houses, and has appeared on Grammy-winning and Platinum albums by the experimental heavy metal band Tool. Alysson Grey’s art focuses on the mystical integration of sacred language with spiritual experiences.
