The Department of Anthropology will host a roundtable brunch and discussion with Kabbas Azhar ’18 and Megan Iorio, attorneys at law, from the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC). EPIC is the leading U.S. nonprofit dedicated to advancing the right to privacy through research, advocacy, and litigation. This session will offer critical insight on emerging policy considerations and civil liberty protections.
The roundtable will take place on Friday, May 16, 2025, between 11am - 2:30pm in 216 Aaron Burr Hall.
From 11:00 am-12:30 pm, Orla O’Sullivan, PhD Student, will lead a practicum on developing and implementing personal digital risk assessment plans. Orla brings five years of experience working at the intersection of human rights, social development, and digital technology.
Following that 1 pm-2:30 pm, the roundtable session with Kabbas Azhar and Megan Iorio will provide a space for attendees to discuss issues relating to privacy law and policy in the US, with particular focus on data privacy and protection at borders, and on emerging concerns within an unsettled policy context.
